Fortis Health was formed in LaCrosse, WI as the LaCrosse Mutual Aide Association in 1892. In 1900 the company was moved to Milwaukee and came to be known as Time Insurance Company. As the first North American global expansion acquisition by the Dutch AMEV organization, the company was bought in 1978. In 1990, Fortis was formed as a result of international merger and the local Milwaukee insurer became a part of Fortis. The Time Insurance Company officially changed its name to Fortis Health.
