The working field of Intermountain Healthcare is cast. It operates 20 hospitals in Utah, and 1 hospital in Idaho. The clinics and urgent care facilities that are run by physicians and a part of the Intermountain Medical Group are also operated by Intermountain Healthcare. The healthcare system of Intermountain employs 600 of Utah's 4,000 physicians, provides insurance to about 19 percent of Utahns and operates over 120 healthcare facilities.
The journey of Intermountain Healthcare started in 1975. The non-hospital services such as clinics and home healthcare was started by Intermountain in 1982. From 1982 to 1990 four hospitals were added. Intermountain Healthcare can boast of being the recipient of The Healthcare Forum/Witt award.
The healthcare program of Intermountain Healthcare was classified in to three main groups in the mid 1990s. They were hospitals, physicians and IHC health –plans.
