Many important changes were made in the year 1973. It was decided on that year a t least 30% of the total cost of treatment of the elderly persons aged more than 70 will be borne by the state. Kokuho is the special kind of health insurance benefit offered by the Japanese government to the senior citizens of Japan. Public health insurance system in Japan can be divided into two parts. One is government management health insurance scheme and another is insurance based on mutual aid. The later kind of insurance is generally discernible in the small businesses.
Japan health insurance covers the cost of treating many kinds of ailments and almost all the major surgeries. Health insurance in Japan also covers the cost of medicine and nursing.
